Reasons #432 & #433 I Love working at L-Way

#432

I love Fridays. Fridays at L-Way mean pizza. In our cafe, make-your-own pizzas are served on the fifth day of the week, much reminiscent of Pizza Huts personal pans (anyone remember "BookIt!"?). Our pizza chef, Dustin, constructs my pie out of pepperoni, green peppers, and pineapple, and then tops it with a generous amount of cheese. After a five minute ride through the baking conveyer belt, my piping hot and perfectly crisp lunch is ready.

#433

This morning, I got a call from my Tennessean rep and new friend, offering me tickets to the Keith Urban concert tonight at Sommet--and that's not all--VIP passes to the Tennessean's suite, complete with food and drink to boot. I called up Em and in several hours, we'll be hobnobbing with Tennessean's other valued advertisers as we watch country music's most metrosexual star prance around the stage. Maybe we'll meet some cute boys...

To pluck or not to pluck?

Exhibit A:

Anyone care to take a stab at the name of this smiling girl? It's none other than Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon, a.k.a. Madonna's love child. What do you notice first about the lovely Lourdes? I'm going to guess that it's not her attire...

Before you give me a tongue-lashing for making fun of a 12-year-old, hear me out:

Self-confidence and assurance of who you are, regardless of your appearance, is very important. Someday, I hope to have an adolescent daughter to affirm and encourage her way to a healthy self-image.

However--- you better believe I'll give her a pair of tweezers and a magnifying mirror so her fuzzy uni-brow isn't responsible for ostracizing her from her peers.

I went through an awkward phase in sixth grade. I had huge glasses. A mouth full of metal. And fuzzy legs. I can remember begging my mom to let me shave my legs because I was embarrassed to wear shorts in gym class.

When she finally caved, I was so excited. By that time, I'd realized subtle tweaks to my appearance would attract attention from my male counterparts, even if their advances were of the pre-pubescent variety.

Granted, I don't come from the school of thought that says that a woman should alter her appearance in order to snag a man--but if we can all be honest, a little lip gloss and mascara doesn't hurt when flashing a pouty-come-kiss-me pucker, while batting your eyes at your man of the hour.

Am I overstepping my bounds in asking Madonna to tackle the Borat brow and the caterpillar babies on Lourdes upper lip?

Hot Flashes

No, I'm not going through menopause. But I may very well have a fever. Hard to tell when I'm freezing and clammy one minute, and then so hot that I want to rip my clothes off and lie naked on my office floor the next minute. For some reason, I don't think I'd receive the L-Way stamp of approval for that move...

I'm sick. I'm at work. Annnd I'm cranky.

Oh, and did I mention that my Comcast (four-letter word) internet at home has been on the blink for two weeks? I'm going nuts.

Compliments of Brown's Kitchen

It's not even Thanksgiving Day yet and I've already had three pieces of pumpkin pie. I can't help it that I've made the best pumpkin pie of my life. Seriously. I outdid myself this time. I should sell my pumkin pie. Your mom would buy one. So would your greasy granny.

Happy Thanksgiving ya'll!

Movin' on up!

I love my company. Where else are you invited to do a Bible study with co-workers on your lunch break? I am so blessed to be a L-Way employee.

I just finished the first session of Beth Moore's new Bible study, "Stepping Up: A Journey Through the Psalms of Ascent." It's my first Beth Moore study and I'm tickled to death with her. She has an incredible spiritual gift of encouragement and wisdom, and I walked out of the conference room with a smile on my face. I'm so uplifted!

60 Seconds

I'm dying to get that negativity off the top of my blog, but I'm slammed right now. So, here's a 60-second teaser of what's going on this week:

Tonight I'm headed to Murfreesboro for the birth of my best friend's first baby. I'm SO excited!!!

Tomorrow night, I'm grocery shopping for my Tastefully Simple party that I'm hosting on Sunday, and for the Thanksgiving dinner we're having for my homeless friends on Tuesday, and for Thanksgiving next Thursday. I'd like to go to yoga Wednesday night too, but the only bending and twisting I may be doing is reaching for the canned pumpkin on the bottom shelf.

Thursday evening, I'll be frantically cleaning my apartment in anticipation of the Tastefully Simple party I'm hosting on Sunday. As much as I abhor the thoughts of my Thursday night plans, I know that my soul will be at peace after my floors are "shining like the top of the Chrysler Building."

I have a hot date Friday night.

I'm cooking all day on Saturday, doing a bit of Christmas shopping, and celebrating the birthdays of Siebe and Lana at Cabana Saturday night.

I could go on, but I'll stop there. Surely something in the days to come will provide me with enough fodder to pull myself out of this blogging mire. To be continued...

It is finished.

Ever feel like you can't let something go, but the longer you hold on, the more havoc it wrecks?

The bruise is still there as a reminder, but I finally let go.

Mood Lift

I'd just like to say that I look really hot today. And, I've lost four pounds this week. I'm eating lo-carb again, and working out diligently, and it's paying off. My spirits are lifted, and so is my derriere.
